Candles have always been a part of our everyday lives, a constant source of peace, happiness, and light, both literally and metaphorically.
We grew up watching our mother and grandmothers light candles daily, be it during a Pooja, for a soothing fragrance, or simply to create a sense of comfort at home. As we grew older and moved across new homes, cities, and phases of life, lighting a candle became our quiet anchor. It reminded us of where we come from, the warmth of family, and the values that guide us, no matter the distance.
That deep-rooted love eventually evolved into Guru Om.
Guru Om takes its name from something we hold close. In Sanskrit, Gu means darkness and Ru means light — a journey from one into the other. Om, the most sacred mantra, represents the soul, the self, and the infinite truth of the universe. Together, the name captures everything we make our candles to be: a small but powerful guide from dark moments into light. For us, that light comes from spiritual faith; for you, it might be a person, a ritual, a memory, or even a morning cup of chai. Whatever brings you comfort and clarity is your light. Our all-black packaging, though unconventional, also symbolizes this. The box is the darkness and the candle within represents light and hope.
Guru Om is a women-led, home-grown labour of love, started by two sisters, Hridi and Ananya. Every candle is hand-poured, made slowly, with love & care, and with the same intention we'd put into something for our own home. Each one is a gentle reminder that you are not alone. We hope they bring the same warmth and joy into your space as they do in ours.
